The Short Answer
An escape room is a themed puzzle game in which a group of people must work together to solve puzzles and challenges within a set amount of time. The goal is to complete an objective and escape within the time limit.
Escape rooms often have a specific storyline or theme, such as a detective mystery, a haunted house, or a prison break. They encourage teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity, and they are popular for group activities, team-building exercises, and parties. Some escape rooms may involve physical tasks, while others rely on logic or lateral thinking.
Common misconceptions about Escape Rooms
– You are locked in!
This is the most common thing we hear. We never lock you inside a room. First off, it’s not fun and second…it’s illegal! The door you enter will always be open so if you need a brea, need to take a call or want to use the bathroom, you can!
– Escape Rooms are scary!
Some Escape Rooms have spooky or scary theming but currently we have no rooms like this. No, the walls aren’t going to start moving, and no, there are no spikes on the roof like the Escape Room horror movies which came out a few years ago!
– Escape Rooms are hard!
This is a common misconception also. Not all Escape Rooms are super difficult plus – difficulty is subjective, not all groups struggle on the same puzzle. Each room will have a variety of puzzles so you might find some easy and some more difficulty but it was designed that way. All of the rooms at Escape Room Novi are rated between 1 and 5 in difficulty and also have an escape rate percentage ranging from 80% to around 35% so when making your room choice, take this information into consideration.
– If you don’t escape, you’re stuck in there forever!
This is a funny one whenever we hear this. No, we’re not going to leave you in there once time is up. We likely have other groups coming in. Once your time is up, we will come into the room and take a group photo and show you the next thing you needed to do.
– Your goal is to Escape the Room!
Your mission objective changes room to room but all of our games feature exciting objectives. If your objective was to “escape the room” you could win in the first 10 seconds as, like we said above, you are not locked in. Your objective will usually be to find an item or series of items to win the game.
– You need to be academically smart to play an Escape Room!
Anyone can play Escape Rooms. Whether you’re 5 or 95, Escape Rooms have something for you! Most people have experienced some sort of problem solving in their life from video games and board games to crosswords, sudoku and general troubleshooting in daily life. We get groups from academic or engineering backgrounds all the time and usually they’re not as good at Escape Rooms as they expect to be, It’s usually the group of people who are creative and think a little more outside the box which do better but with that being said….anyone can do Escape Rooms!
